About Us

Our Mission

Comanche Creek Hunt exists to honor the legacy of mounted hunting while creating a welcoming, down-to-earth community centered on horses, hounds, and the land we ride.

We offer riders of all levels and disciplines a place to learn, grow, and ride with purpose. Our hunt is rooted in tradition but guided by inclusivity, education, and respect for animals, landowners, and fellow riders.

Through strong partnerships with landowners and agricultural organizations, we help preserve open spaces and protect the rural way of life. We believe the future of foxhunting lies not just in the field, but in how we care for the land, treat each other, and inspire the next generation.

Comanche Creek Hunt is honored to maintain working relationships with the following organizations:

  • Masters of Foxhounds Association of North America (MFHA)

  • Sportsmen’s Alliance

  • Colorado Cattlemen’s Association

  • Colorado Department of Wildlife

  • Elbert County 4-H

Hunt Structure & Governance

Comanche Creek Hunt was founded in May of 2024, in Kiowa Colorado, as a Private Subscription Hunt by Eve Darrow and Amy McCraken.

Subscription Hunt: There are various forms of subscription packs. Subscription packs are similar to private Hunts. The Directors can be elected or appointed by committee or they can be self-perpetuated by the Directors themselves with no approval necessary. The foxhunters in a subscription pack are called subscribers. These subscribers have no input in the decision making process of the Hunt. In a subscription pack the subscribers are charged a fee. This fee allows them to hunt. Directors make all decisions and are liable for all financial obligations. Most subscription packs incorporate for tax purposes.

Eve Darrow and Amy McCraken, are self-appointed Directors and self-perpetuated. Kristy Lathrop, Cary Meyer and Jeanne Sharpe make up the third seat as a combine vote. We are not to exceed 5, Directors at any one time. Directors must always be maintained at an odd number. Directors make all the decisions and members will not be able to vote. At any time Directors may demand a majority vote amongst themselves regarding any decision.

A Director can be removed at any time by a majority vote of the other Directors for failure in or obstruction of responsibility of the Directors as outlined below. Masters who are inactive, defined as no longer present at or hunting less than 50% of the scheduled hunts in a season are required to step down or otherwise be forcefully elevated to Director Emeritus, unless the remaining Directors have unanimously agreed upon retention. This decision of retention will be submitted in writing to the inactive Directors and must be renewed annually.

Responsibility of the Directors:

  • Fiscal responsibility and adherence to the budget

  • Maintaining health of hounds to regularly accepted standards of care

  • Maintaining their own transportation, tack, and mounts for hunting

  • Good and frequent communication with other members, landowners and Directors

  • Land preservation

  • Conservation and expansion of hunt country

  • Landowner Relations

  • Team player, group decision making, and devotion of time and resources to the hunt

Kennels

The Kennels are privately owned and maintained on private property and are not open to members or the public at any time.

Members may be allowed to visit the kennel solely by invitation of the landowner. If you would like to visit or bring a guest please call the owner to obtain permission for date, time, duration. Non-members will not be allowed at the kennels unless as a guest of the owner. The main kennel is owned and maintained by Amy McCraken. NO OUTSIDE DOGS/PETS WILL BE ALLOWED AT THE KENNELS, HUNTS, OR COMANCHE CREEK HUNT EVENTS WITHOUT PRIOR APPROVAL.

As long as Amy McCraken remains as huntsman and the main pack remains on her private property she will be responsible for determining the amount of hounds. The Directors are responsible financially to provide for any care in excess of what the member dues can reasonably cover.

Per Colorado Department of Wildlife, hunting coyote is permissible throughout the year with a small game license.
